Situated smack in the middle of the Andes Mountain range, Valle Nevado remains one of Chile's most popular ski centers. It's only an hour or so from the center of Santiago, which makes it a great day trip or weekend escape for those in the city.

Portillo has been around for quite a while! It's the oldest ski center in South America and has been running for over 70 years. Portillo is located two hours from Santiago, deep within the Andes Mountains, and just 5 km from the Argentine border.
The ski center offers activities and programs for all types of people with different levels, ages, and abilities. You can snowshoe around Inca Lake, for example. It is also the place where world-class athletes, such as the US, Canadian, and Norwegian national ski teams, hold their training sessions.

Corralco in the Malalcahuello National Reserve is a great place to check out — an exciting spot to spend a few days skiing, 700 kilometers south of Santiago. You can also have fun in the snow park, go snowkiting, or enjoy a snowshoe walk in the national park.
Close to the slopes are some breathtaking natural views and adventures. Travelers can discover the immense forests filled with Araucaria trees or visit Pehuenco Lagoon.
Chile's small city, Chillán, is a four to five-hour drive from Santiago. The mountain resort Nevados de Chillán, 80 kilometers from the city, was nominated "best ski resort" in Chile in 2023. The resort is open throughout the year, with a waterpark and bike paths in summer and skiing and spa opportunities in the winter.
Nevados de Chillán is an excellent place for the whole family. There are ski and snowboarding classes for all types of winter sports enthusiasts.
