Home to a fascinating mesh of colonial and indigenous cultures, this charming part of northwestern Argentina will give you the opportunity to fall in love with the region through short day hikes, "Torrontes" wine tastings, and exploring nearby small picturesque towns and the city of Salta itself.
After arriving at Salta Airport and being transported to your hotel, we’ll spend the afternoon on an enlightening half-day city walking tour through this charming colonial town, home to some of the nicest historical squares in Argentina. The tour also includes a visit to the amazing MAAM museum, featuring exhibitions of famous high altitude mummies.
In the evening, we will visit one of the city peñas, a traditional restaurant where you can taste local dishes such as world-renowned cheese or meat Salteñas empanadas, humitas, and tamales while enjoying live folk music in the background.

After breakfast, we’ll depart for Cafayate wine country in the Calchaqui Valley, where we'll have a premium wine tasting and vineyard visit. Along the way, once we’re in the heart of the colorful Las Conchas gorge, we’ll stop to embark on a 40-60 minute hike with an English speaking guide through this breathtaking Martian-esque landscape. After enjoying a delicious box lunch, we continue on Cafayate, arriving in the afternoon.

After breakfast, we head north through the Calchaqui Valley, once the cradle of ancient pre-Incan cultures, and now home to a rich historical past, natural wonders, and flowing vineyard-covered fields. Surrounded by this stunning natural beauty, we’ll take a break for a nice box lunch. After passing by picturesque small towns, we arrive back in Salta.
We will arrive back in town for lunch and free time in the afternoon.

After breakfast, we travel along a zigzagging road past historic ruins and the pre-Incan city of Santa Rosa de Tastil. We then visit the Great Salt Flats, a surreal landscape perfect for photographers and wildlife watchers. We finish the day in Purmamarca, at the base of a mountain said to have 7 colors.
Overnight in La Casa de Piedra (3* hotel) or similar, Purmamarca.
Meals: Breakfast & Box Lunch.
After breakfast, we drive to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Humahuaca Gorge. We will stop for photos and see various landmarks such as the Paleta del Pintor, Pucará de Tilcara and the charming small town of Humahuaca.

After breakfast, you’ll be transported back to the Salta Airport for your departing flight.

Casa de Piedra is a hotel with stone and adobe structures, a reed roof and fine touch details in the finishes, all with the rustic charm of the area. It is located in the center of the town of Purmamarca, steps from the main square.

This trip does not demand physical activity other than walking a maximum of two or three consecutive hours over fairly easy terrain, with as many stops as necessary to fit in with the rhythm of the group. If you feel that you want to be more active during excursions then our local guides will be ready to incorporate more action into the excursions.
