Full Day in Cachagua & Zapallar from Santiago

Las Cujas Trail

Departing early from your Santiago hotel at 6:30 a.m., we will begin a 2-hour drive to Cachagua's Pacific coastline. A leisurely walk along the shore leads us to views of Isla Cachagua and its Humboldt penguin colony, binoculars are recommended for wildlife observation. Our 2:30-hour coastal hike from Cachagua to Zapallar reveals diverse landscapes, hidden beaches, and coastal wildlife, including birds, chungungo otters, and marine life. Enjoy a cheese and wine picnic before heading back to Santiago around 3:00 p.m., aiming for a 5:30 p.m. hotel return.

Physical demands

The tour consists of an easy to moderate 3 to 4 hours hike. This trip is good for all ages (ideally between 7 and 70 years of age) and people interested in seeing marine wildlife.

Throughout the year in the central coast of Chile, the temperatures can soar as high as 40°C / 100ºF or dip between 12°C and 15°C (54º - 59º F), varying by region and season. Expect a lush landscape, thanks to abundant rainfall, particularly during the winter months.

What you need to bring

  • Light clothing. (windbreaker, shirt, trekking trousers)
  • Warm clothing & Spare clothing.
  • Trekking or good sport shoes.
  • Binoculars.
  • Camera. 
  • Swimming suit & towel (optional, in case you want to swim at the beaches).
  • Refillable water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat.
  • Comfortable backpack.
