Rafting at Cajón del Maipo

Cajón del Maipo, Central Andes

Set off on a thrilling adventure from Santiago through the Maipo Valley to the Andes for a day of white-water rafting.

Our expert guides will provide you with all the necessary gear and ensure you're ready for the Maipo River's class 3 and 4 rapids, perfect for both novices and seasoned rafters. Navigate through 16 km of breathtaking scenery, ending in San Jose de Maipo or El Melocoton, depending on the season. Each excursion lasts about an hour.

An optional visit to Refugio Animal Cascada is available for an additional price.

If the minimum of 4 passengers is not met, additional costs will apply for the missing spots.

About Refugio Animal Cascada

Located in the Cascada de las Animas Nature Sanctuary, the Cascada Animal Refuge is made up of a Rehabilitation Center and an Exhibition Center for native fauna, where work is done every day to care for all native animals that need it.

Starting / finishing points

The trip starts at your hotel in Santiago at 9 AM and finishes at your hotel at approximately 5 PM.

Physical demands

No rafting experience is required, but you must be physically fit and able to swim.

Guiding staff 

Guide to client ratio: 1:6.

Transport

We use comfortable vans or cars for the activities and transfers.

Weather

Central Chile is mild and temperate. The warmest months are November to February when temperatures reach 29ºC (84ºF). June to August are the coolest months with temperatures as low as 10ºC (50ºF).​

What you need to bring

  • Sandals or tennis shoes (use wool socks in winter).
  • Bathing suit.
  • Sunblock and lip balm.
  • Towel.
  • The equipment supplied by Cascada will be a wet suit, life jacket, paddle jacket and helmet.
