Just outside Santiago, Cajon de Maipo is an adventure wonderland with rivers, forests, and snow-capped peaks. This full-day trip, guided by an expert, takes you to San José Volcano after a 3-hour moderate hike with stunning views. After the hike, relax your muscles at thermal hot springs high in the mountains.

Itinerary

San José Volcano & Colina Hot Springs

Cajón del Maipo, Central Andes

We’ll depart from your hotel in Santiago, traveling in an air-conditioned van to El Cajón del Maipo. Following a mountain road, we’ll enjoy views of rivers, vineyards, and rock formations. Our first stop is San Jose de Maipo for breakfast and to appreciate the architecture.

We’ll then continue into the Andes to San José Volcano, where the hike begins. Following the guide, we’ll encounter rocky inclines and wildflowers. Look up at the snow-capped Andes and watch for condors.

After a 3-hour hike, we’ll reach a lookout to enjoy a box lunch and views of San José Volcano. We’ll then head to Valle de Colina Hotsprings to relax in the steaming waters. After a break, we’ll return to Santiago.

Central Chile is mild and temperate. The warmest months are November to February when temperatures reach 29ºC (84ºF).. Nevertheless, during this low mountain trek, the temperature might drop considerably if the day is cloudy and the wind blows strongly, reaching as low as15ºC (59ºF).

  • Light clothing. (windbreaker, shirt, trekking trousers)
  • Spare clothing.
  • Trekking or good sport shoes.
  • Camera.
  • Swimming suit, towel and sandals.
  • Water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat.
  • Comfortable backpack.
